Aya Fujioka Here Goes River

Fujioka chronicles her hometown of Hiroshima, a city carrying heavy history, where "peace" has since hardened into custom. Her snapshot approach sets itself apart from conventional photojournalism, less concerned with instruction than with the elements of the city that let its past reverberate in the present. Images of daily life, remembrance and innocence orbit the Atomic Bomb Dome, while the city's seven rivers Ñ and its other rivers of tourists, residents, arcades and streetcars Ñ run through the sequence.
