This large furoshiki is made from five cotton fabric panels beautifully faded to light green. Centered is a kamon (family crest) called "Jūji Chigai Takanoha (十字違い鷹の羽)," or crossed hawk feathers. The hawk feather crest — one of the five most prevalent Japanese family crests — symbolizes martial valor, as hawk feathers were prized for fletching arrows and the bird itself was revered as an emblem of warrior spirit. Throughout the cloth are boro patches and repairs with sashiko stitching — signs that this piece was loved and treasured over decades, giving it rich character.
