Masahisa Fukase: Yoko

Originally published in 1978, Masahisa Fukase's (1934–2012) Yoko became the photographer's defining photobook. The black-and-white images chronicle intimate, emotionally charged public and private moments of his wife and muse throughout the 1960s and '70s — daily life in their small Tokyo apartment, their wedding, and travels to Hokkaido, Kanazawa, Izu, Kyoto, and New York, where Fukase exhibited as part of "New Japanese Photography" at MoMA in 1974. Among the series' signature images is "Untitled (from window)," in which Fukase photographed a fashionable Yoko heading to work each morning, captured from the fourth-floor window of their apartment.

After long being out of print, this official reissue was published by AKAAKA in 2025, supervised by Tomo Kosuga, director of the Masahisa Fukase Archives. The book includes all photographs and text from the original edition, as well as the photographer's texts referenced at the time of the original publication, an essay by Masako Toda, and a message from Yoko Miyoshi (formerly Fukase).
